The Petitioner´s Rain Dance
written by Halfblind Henry
We see the plumfaced midgets
planting hyacinths in the dust
drawing maps of imaginary gardens
to overcome their wanderlust
The mirror is an image
we all love to believe in
except when we´re alone
and a seductive voice is whispering
Hang your suit, drop your case
This is home
Let me tell you in dreamland they´ve got nightmares, too
The queen and her faithful rooks
play the game of counting noughts
while the bishop envies knight moves
it´s all too easy to read their thoughts
Second hand customers
curiously waiting for someone
to tell them what they´re waiting for
While they´re filing through their options
nothing can scare them but the closing
of an automatic door
We see them floating into the pavilion of randomness
I really dig your hairdo
it´s not the case that I don´t care
I just feel a little dizzy
after drinking from the angels´share
If you´ve got nothing to say
if you´ve got nothing to do
it´s pointless to be around
so I´ll best be on my way
choices are getting few
when the drums begin to pound
and spring is still a long time coming

Small Town Beauty
written by Halfblind Henry
Care for the ones who care for you
Don´t dare to run to where all dreams come true
She was a hard working small town beauty
always wearing her best on Sundays
Maintenance of the good life was her duty
after teasing the boys, back in the fun days
in their baggy t-shirts with funny cartoons
at the barbecues under the harvest moon
Care for the ones who care for you
Don´t dare to run to where all dreams come true
She found refuge on the beach
a place to embrace the ocean
With her real love forever out of reach
she finally gave in to a notion
She had wanted her heroes to be valiant
She had grown tired of storefront stimulants
Care for the ones who care for you
Don´t dare to run to where all dreams come true

On a Soft September Morning
written by Halfblind Henry
You smiled at your cute little daughter
wrapped up in your arms so tight
The favourite toy always within reach
She could repeat all you had taught her
some dance steps, a poem to recite
with all her clumsiness and limited speach
You introduced her as the odd attraction
to neighbours and friends
who cheered at the distraction
You showed her the game
such fun to play
yes, and who is to blame
just for acting it out their way
And the goodies were plenty
on birthdays and such
it was hard to tell the differrence
between everything and too much
All creatures got a mind of their own
Everybody likes a story to be true
No-one likes to be left alone
But, then again, maybe they do
On a soft September morning
standing on your front lawn
watching the twinkling dew drops
A songbird is singing
just a little too loud

Folk Song
written by Halfblind Henry
The bum is dumpster diving all over town
return bottles earn him plenty of change
Every night you can see him on his busy round
He´s got every detail of his life arranged
He never listens to the buskers sing
He´s in it for the bliss that empty bottles bring
Them gangsta boys are always looking for a fight
trying to act real mean, trying to look real fierce
But they´re a little soft spoken tonight
´cause they´ve just had their buttholes pierced
At the end of the line it boils down to one thing:
It´s a cause without rebels, this crowd just wants funding
There´s public screening in the streets tonight
a new sensation´s on display
Everybody knows what they´ll get is crap
but they crave it anyway
Everybody´s got an armful of tattoos
Everybody´s complaining about the crisis
Everybody´s got their own substance to abuse
Everybody´s talking to their own devices
They´ve all got nothing left but a lot to lose
They´ve all got their own definition of the blues
Trying to keep up an outcast´s notoriety
while becoming a part of society
all the new slogans don´t sound so outrageous
these days cheap talk is really contagious
So find a bigger shadow to walk by your side
trade in lost hope for a fistful of pride
Something´s gonna come this way you say
and we can have it all for free
But whatever this way comes, I guess
something wicked it will be
Everyone agrees, the victims need a voice
Everybody´s crying about the suffering they´ve seen
but when it finally comes to making a choice
everybody´s opting for a bigger screen
But no-one wants to watch this thing alone
No-one tries to be smarter than their phone
So come and see me tonight my dear
I will share my best bottle of wine
We could sit real close and shed a tear
for auld lang syne

Pictures Of Sunsets
written by Halfblind Henry
From somewhere to nowhere in silent flight
Counting coins at the station
The odd life takes its toll
From here it´s only three steps to daylight
No sense of destination
No guideline for the soul
The cinemascope sky is wider than ever before
but I don´t take pictures of sunsets anymore
Too early to speak, too busy too dream
Watching the amazing dance
of iridescent clouds
Aseptic people in absurd magazines
The conspicuous trance
of the cannibal crowd
There´s broken glass and petals and vomit all over the floor
but I don´t take pictures of sunsets anymore
The girls on the beach never keep a promise
They reside on their towels
like mermaids on their rocks
Like an awkward pretence of Adonis
the fisherman´s on the prowl
but the whole scenery is just a crock
The sun is glowing and waves are crashing on the shore
but I don´t take pictures of sunsets anymore
Tunes of sedation are playing galore
but I don´t take pictures of sunsets anymore

You And Me And Winston Smith
written by Halfblind Henry
Something good is a-coming
round the bend
Something good is a-coming
round the bend
Something good is a-coming
round the bend
Something good is a-coming
coming for you my friend.
Something good is a-coming
sure and slow
Something good is a-coming
sure and slow
Something good is a-coming
sure and slow
Something good is a-coming
and that is all I know
Something´s happening here
for all to see
Something´s happening here
for all to see
Something´s happening here
for all to see
Something´s happening
while you´re watching your tv
Keep on keeping on
like Winston Smith
Keep on keeping on
like Winston Smith
Keep on keeping on
like Winston Smith
Keep on keeping on
tell us all about the one you´re with
Something good is a-coming
down the line
Something good is a-coming
down the line
Something good is a-coming
down the line
Like a giant sun
it´s gonna shine, shine, shine

Beg, Steal or Borrow
written by Halfblind Henry
We´ve been walking
streets of pity
that never
change their names
We´ve been talking
to people in the city
forever
hooked on games
We´ve been riding
on a slow train
between stations
out of bounds
They saw us striding
along the slow lane
furloughed patients
coming round
Stripped of all virtue
stripped of all shame
Love, we´re getting ready
to call you
by your name
Realms of rapture
realms of glory
hungry pilgrims
on the run
It´s not captured
in the story
but they killed them
one by one
Beg, steal and borrow
to keep from starving
a coin to toss
is all that´s mine
This time tomorrow
my little darling
we will cross
the borderline
Stripped....
Let us know your name

Out Of The Zoo
written by Halfblind Henry
Don't be ugly
quit that stare
most unaware
Don't be jealous
better take care
of what´s to share
Don't look at us
Don't look now
Stop acting like a tourist in a gift shop
Some things soon will change
Some things have to be done
From here on it's gonna be
Out of the zoo
and into the jungle
Don't be funny
quit the way you walk
quit the way you talk
Don't be clever
hiding your shame
for playing games
Don't look at us
Don't look now
Adopt a point of view that isn't entirely pointless
Some things soon will change
Some things have to be done
From here on it's gonna be
Out of the zoo
and into the jungle
insecurity
indignity
generosity
humility
charity
hypocrisy
fragility
integrity
fun society
false policy
asymmetry
volatility
insufficiency
Don't be ugly
quit that stare
Don't be jealous
Better take care
Don't be funny
quit the way you walk
quit the way you talk
Don't be clever
Playing games
Playing clever games
Don't look at us Don't look now Don't look at us Don't look now Stop

The Magazine Girl

The Magazine Girl
written by Halfblind Henry
Her dark sunglasses hold back a wave of dyed hair
she's toting a lifestyle magazine she picked up somewhere
Her necklace is made of vintage chain and pearls
Her designer handbag's full of women's tools
She's a child of the modern world
but she lives by a different set of rules
As she's walking across the hall
she looks so self-assured and tall
drawing the line line between the false and the true
she knows exactly where she's going to
She won´t play no games
She's got a hundred names
Nothing will be the same
the gate is closing now
She's been to school and learned her lessons well
She knows more about us than anyone can tell
Turning on one high heel while checking her mobile
a strange look of commitment in her eyes
Swiftly slipping through the turnstile
as the blast takes everybody by surprise
And it only goes to show
behind everything there's something you don't know
You can't judge someone by the style of clothes
you never would have guessed she was one of those
She won´t play no games
She's got a hundred names
Nothing will be the same
the gate is closing now
Long ago she made a promise
you never would have wanted her to keep
She had this dream about awakening
while you would watch her sound asleep

Frontier

Frontier
written by Halfblind Henry
You stole away from the crowd
as things got eerier
and the talk got loud
about a superior race
You settled at the frontier
to avoid having to cross the line
Now you spend your days
rearranging the interior of this place
around a makeshift shrine
I travelled so far in search of purity
leaving broken words and shattered trust behind me
Here I wrap myself in smooth obscurity
so the recollectors of the past will never find me
These streets, so familiar yet so strange
We could walk about in this town forever
if it weren´t for the dead ends...
But we´ve come much too late
to redefine love and hate
friends by nature, strangers by design
I´ll leave you with yours, you´ll leave me with mine
Somewhere a synthetic church bell is ringing
blasting out fake, distorted chimes
Toothless children, dressed up like dolls
are singing stupid nursery rhymes,
mercilessly out of tune,
hopelessly out of time
Standing on a corner like junkies trying to score
grumpy old men are watching spray painted dogs on parade
Spiteful, oblivious and inevitably bored
they are waiting for something to come out of the shade
The skywatcher on duty wipes a tear out of his eye
He´s seen it all, he knows what´s flying low and what´s flying high
He´s been in service for so long
he know´s every flying object flying by
Out here you can´t tell the bottom from the top
Out here everything is plain and old
Out here you hold on to what you´ve got
Out here you can´t trade your conscience for silver and gold
Out here the wind will never stop
Out here it´s cold
There´s nothing but the sand, the road and the sky
and a single nightbird rehearsing its cry
where you and I remain
sitting on the steps of the abandoned depot
like lovers
waiting
for their lovers
