Sweet Bird of Sorrow

Sweet Bird of Sorrow
The sky has never been this sallow
the stars play hide and seek
None bright enough to follow
across the lowlands dark and bleak
as I listen to the sweet bird of sorrow
sing for the meek
The sacred ground is cracked and hollow
this creek will never meet the sea
All we have is only borrowed
and that’s all there will ever be
as I listen to the sweet bird of sorrow
sing for the free

Towards Solid Ground
or The Artists´s Lullaby
I´m not holding back anything
just to make you say "Please"
Should I come up with more words
to comfort the lost and the lonely?
When none of my rhymes will be heard
by any one of these
I have to admit
I´m in it for your beauty only
There is a hunger
there is a need
that is stronger
than love or creed
There is a light
on a distant shore
cutting through the night
darker than before
There is a cold voice calling
You don´t think
You don´t know
In a blink
memories flow
the great eclipse
a very last drink
parting lips
time to go
I´m not taking back anything
it´s all part of the scheme
Should I strip naked and squeal
just to appear a little less boring?
When nothing I say will make up
for the loss of a dream
I have to admit
I never got round to finishing the story

If I Were

If I Were
If I were your poet
I’d supply you with healing words
You would get over your sickness
I would get over my solitude
If I were your painter
I´d supply you with canvases
You would get lost in the colours
The world would get lost in your beauty
If I were your sculptor
I´d shape faces from clay
They´d forever watch you in your garden
You would forever dance on the lawn

The Orphan Alien

The Orphan Alien
A day has passed, their work is done
a long long night has just begun
While they make their funny sounds
a smell comes up from underground
All those lights, all those bells
I step aside, I don't feel well
This is fun, but not for me
They give me drinks, they let me be
Your eyes are pretty, the sun is golden
the sky is turquoise, and that is all I know
Like an orphan alien
I forgot where I came from
can't remember where I was told to go
Sometimes they listen, they are so kind
I'm acting strange but they don't mind
I spend all day sitting on a fence
The words I speak do not make sense
They treat me nice, they share the wine
They let me walk between the lines
They show me games, they let me play
They touch my head, they let me stay
......
So many roads leading nowhere
millions of eyes that can only stare
Don't look at me, I'm sitting still
I never move, I never will
There's a pain in my bones
I am sick and I don't know home
I think I'm safe but I'm not sure
I don't count the years that I endure
Your eyes are pretty, the sun is golden
the sky is turquoise, and that is all I know
like a shipwrecked envoy
I forgot where I came from
can't remember where I was told to go
I can only mimic, I can't be real
what's in my heart I can't reveal
I talk to you, you talk to me
If only I had a memory...
Your eyes remind me of a dream
I used to dream, but the lights are dim
The accident... the erasure... ( the average...)
This endless time...
Come, fill my glass up to the brim

Save the Roses

Save the Roses
There´s one kind favour I ask of you
There´s one kind favour I ask of you
There´s one kind favour I ask of you
Don´t carve no epithaph in my stone
Did you ever hear that thudding sound
Did you ever hear that thudding sound
Did you ever hear that thudding sound
of clods falling on the ground?
Save your roses for a summer´s day
Save your roses for a summer´s day
Save your roses for a summer´s day
the autumn rain will wash them away

Crystal Blue Light

Crystal Blue Light
There is nothing but sky
between sun and shore
Spectres drift by
dissolving while they soar
The stillness of time and space
drapes a cloak around your soul
Everything falls into place
with the glistening lights on the shoal
One of us must stay
in the silent zone
One of us must keep away
from broken bones
One of us must cross
the distance alone
Follow the wild cranes´ call
whatever you may happen to find
you can trade it all
for memories of quiet days
you had to leave behind

All the Rain

All the Rain
All the rain keeps falling
falling down on earth
All the rain keeps falling
falling down on earth
All the rain keeps falling
falling down on earth
Keep the fire burning
for the ones who are far from home
Keep the fire burning
for the ones who are far from home
Keep the fire burning
for the ones who are far from home
All the rain keeps falling
falling down on earth
All the rain keeps falling
falling down on earth
All the rain keeps falling
falling down on earth

Like a Prayer for a Breath
Like children pretending to grow
Like ploughmen pretending to sow
Like the blind begging the prophet
to hold a candle while they pray
Like mercenaries taking shelter
while they´re waiting for their pay
we are staring,
staring,
staring at the wall
Like the gambler pretending to win
Like the traitor saving his skin
Like the dealer and the high priest
taking turns at rolling crooked dice
Like the beauty and the idiot
hoping someone will cut them a slice
we are running,
running,
running behind
Like the artist destroying his work
Like the actor acting berserk (the jerk?)
Like the bishop and his mistress
hiding in their secret room
Like believers clinging to the scripture
in these times of blood and gloom
we are tumbling,
tumbling,
tumbling down

Between Ample Skies And Oceans Deep
Between ample skies and oceans deep
where shooting stars will leave no trace
rest your heart before you fall asleep
mountains rise all high and steep
from riddles carved into your face
between ample skies and oceans deep
where all your creatures cry and leap
for those who run but cannot keep the pace
rest your heart before you fall asleep
with promises too soft and frail to keep
for those belonging to a fallen race
between ample skies and oceans deep
over rocks of age your shadows creep
to keep the silence in a secret place
rest your heart before you fall asleep
for all you've sown but cannot reap
praise your love in times of absent grace
between ample skies and oceans deep
rest your heart before you fall asleep
