about
The self-contained little tune and about half the lyrics had been lying around in the attic for ages and I didn´t really know what to do with them. Finally I had enough words to make two verses and after playing around on dobro and guitar while recording this arrangement emerged. It seemed to be the perfect opener for the album.
lyrics
Sweet Bird of Sorrow
The sky has never been this sallow
the stars play hide and seek
None bright enough to follow
across the lowlands dark and bleak
as I listen to the sweet bird of sorrow
sing for the meek
The sacred ground is cracked and hollow
this creek will never meet the sea
All we have is only borrowed
and that’s all there will ever be
as I listen to the sweet bird of sorrow
sing for the free
