The man for all seasons strangled himself with the hose
while drinking from the nozzle
His wife is stacking the fridge with jelly, starch and slime
The pot-bellied picnicker fell asleep in his folding chair
after a case of ice-cold cheapo beer
The painless dancers in the ballrooms of unconsciousness
are twirling and whirling, doing the celestial spiral
The semi-paralysed tightrope walker is crossing concrete valleys
barely liveable enough to want to die in
He got his GoPro working
They stagger, creep and crawl across the bubbling sprawl
They dream, they fly - silently they sigh
taking selfies at the coast – they’re going for what matters most
Late at night they wish for a new companion
Lear jets and yachts buzz around the islands of voracity
So, one per cent is rich, the rest have a bad case of envy
Self-victimised activists blog themselves to fame
Homegrown terrorists invade your shopping mall
Autotuned pop twats drill your ears
while modern fascists in sloppy disguise march and chant again
Dictators and bureaucrats vaporise your daydreams
Celebs, pundits and talk show hosts exercise self-promotion and mass delusion
Conductors and hobos on the gravy train are grinning and waving at everyone
They jabber, brag and bawl - they never answer when you call
They came, they saw - they ate your eyeballs raw
They photographed your face - they gave you a rude embrace
If you feel like screaming, go ahead
The iconoclast hermit lives near the tower of blue horses
he’s not the fool on the hill
but he knows what’s going down
in the modern art museum
well-off winos are contemplating geometric patterns
and pictures of bodies on the beach
while trillions of gadgets are blinking and beeping
and one hundred million refugees are on their way
They scare you, don´t they?
You shiver, shake and bleed - someone sows the final seed
You run, you hide - you´ve been taken for a ride
your brother goes by the name of Cain – your endeavours are in vain
So, who did you save the last dance for?
